Discover Winter Activities Beyond the Slopes

While downhill skiing put Whistler on the map, today’s visitors can participate in a variety of activities, depending on their level of adventure.

Guests can recreate Canadian traditions with a horse-drawn sleigh ride or a dogsled ride at nearby Cougar Mountain. Ice skaters can choose between the NHL regulation-size hockey rink at Meadow Park Recreation Centre or any of the area’s frozen ponds and lakes.

Ziptrek lets you experience life from the forest canopy year-round, but sailing among snow-covered branches is particularly beautiful and quite thrilling. For those unsure about hanging upside down suspended by a climbing harness, there’s good old-fashioned tobogganing and its upscale cousin, The Whistler Blackcomb Tube Park.

Whistler offers a wide range of great recreational options for the whole family.

Olympics Winter Sports Legacy

Winter 2010/11 also marks the first season that the Whistler Sliding Centre is open to the public. Those with a need for speed can pair up with an established bobsled driver and experience Olympic-sized thrills on the world’s fastest ice track.

Another Olympic legacy is Whistler Olympic Park. The Nordic sport centre is nestled in the pristine Callaghan Valley. Although the ski jump remains a training facility only, the 57 km of cross-country tracks are wide open for skiers, with a few kilometres available for snowshoeing.

The turn-off is located 9 km south of Whistler Village, and it’s an equal distance to the ample parking. Off the beaten track, but a definite “must do”. Equipment rentals are available.
