This is one of the best places in Whistler to fish for large Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout, thanks in part to Alta Lake being one of the largest lakes in Whistler.
Fishing at Alta Lake is also very accessible, with several parking lots located on both sides of the lake.
Green Lake
If you want to try your hand at fly fishing, then the locals will tell you to go to Green Lake on the northern edge of town. This glacial-fed lake is much colder than any other in the valley and gets its unique colouring from the sediment in the lake. With lots of potential fishing spots, you may find it tricky to stay in one place for too long!

If you happen to be in town when the salmon are running, then you simply have to stop in Squamish and check out this natural phenomenon. Even if you don’t have your gear with you, it’s still worth checking out.
The banks of the Cheakamus River are easily accessed from the highway, and after a few minutes of hiking, you arrive at the river. Chinook Salmon run here from mid-June to the end of October.
