Whistler Gets Canada’s First Ski-Thru ATM

Ski-thru ATM 2

You’re probably thinking – there’s nothing harder than trying to find money on the side of a mountain. Well, you would have been right a month ago but we’re in 2017 now – the year of Canada’s first ski-thru ATM.

This January 12th, CIBC announced that an ATM has been installed outside the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler mountain, allowing ski-in & ski-out access for all your banking needs. The only thing you had to do today was deposit a cheque? Perfect – grab your ski gear and debit card because you’re about to do some light banking almost 2,000 metres above sea level and still enjoy a full day in the powder.

Ski-thru ATM

While a slope side ATM might just seem like a novelty approach to finding customers, it will actually be pretty helpful for riders on the mountain. The ski-thru Atm provides skiers and boarders easy access to cash for making purchases at cash-only vendors without having to go back down the mountain. Plus, where else can you take out money while also be surrounded by BC’s beautiful scenery.

Are you still skeptical about this? Maybe you’re afraid your fingers might be too cold to type out your PIN? Well don’t worry, it even comes with warming lights and a special place to hold both your ski poles and gloves. The ATM will be dispensing dollar bills throughout the 2017 ski season, so make sure to swing by and check out it out!

The Goods Report

An ATM isn’t the only new thing on the mountain this January. Meet Dina, the newest member of the Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol, on her first day of avalanche training. She sure is cute but she has a lot of work to do before she can really be called an official avalanche dog.

Mountain moments like these are being captured as part of Whistler Blackcomb’s video seriesThe Goods Report. Whistler Blackcomb’s Youtube Channel has been showcasing some of the best moments that the mountain has offered this year. There are over a dozen videos so far and they really do give you a great taste of ‘the goods Whistler Blackcomb has to offer.
