We have an exciting summer ahead of us! The summer of 2013 is shaping up to be action packed with many events, competitions, festivals and concerts.
To kick off the festivities we have the Tough Mudder coming up on June 22nd and 23rd. According to the organizers, the Tough Mudder is probably the toughest event on the planet.
Hosted at the Whistler Olympic Park, this 16-19km course aims to test competitors all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.
The next big event is the 3rd annual Whistler Longboard Festival from July 4th to 7th. It comprises the World Cup Freeride Downhill, Indoor Ramp Jam, Skate Showcase, 10km Skate + Shoot Biathlon and 20km Enduro push race.

We then have Believe Freedom Festival taking place at the Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley from July 11th to 15th. As well as an ambient zone, playing dreamy down tempo tunes with rolling bass lines to chill Psytrance, deep minimal techno and dub styles. Believe is a celebration of life, freedom and self-expression.
Something for the kids! Art workshops, activities, roving characters, and a main stage with musical and performing acts is what is to be expected from the 30th annual Whistler Children's Festival.
It is going to be held on July 13th - 14th in the Whistler Olympic Plaza. Children can also explore ceramics, jewelry, soapstone carving, tie-dye, percussion and fine art.
Next we have Wanderlust Festival which is taking place from August 1st to 4th. Wanderlust's core mission is to create community around mindful living. To do this they focus on simple principles: practice yoga, eat well, be green, practice purpose, create awareness and showcase art. They aim to bring together the world's leading yoga teachers, top musical acts and DJs, renowned speakers, top chefs and winemakers.
The BBQ Championships is a Creekside favorite! It smells amazing and you get to sample some of the best BBQ food you will ever eat! This heated competition is taking place August 2nd to 4th at Dusty's Bar & BBQ in Creekside. Competitions include Burger Championships, Canadian International Chili Championships, King of the Grill and judging of Pork Butt, Cork & Pork, Beef Brisket, Chicken and Ribs. Next is the main event of the summer, Crankworx, Whistler's Freeride Mountain Bike Festival and this year marks its 10 year anniversary. August 9th is the start of 10 days of madness. The best free ride athletes in the world will be coming to whistler to compete in events such as the Canadian Open Downhill, Dual Slalom, Best Trick and the Whip-off World Championships. Many concerts and parties will be happening throughout the 10 days, along with the Cheese rolling festival and the Deep Summer Photo Challenge.
Swimming, biking and running all in one! Ironman Canada takes place on August 25th and it starts off with a 3.86 kilometre swim in Alta Lake. They then complete a two-loop run, following the Valley Trail past Green Lake and Lost Lake and finally reach the finish line for celebration in the Olympic plaza.
To finish off the summer we have the Grandfondo Whistler on September 7th. Granfondo means "big ride" and is a 122 kilometre bike ride starting at sea level in downtown Vancouver and gaining 1,700 metres to reach the finish line in Whistler Village.
