Wrapping Up the Ski Season (Almost!)
The winter season may have ended a while ago, but that doesn't mean the ski season has ended too. Don't put away those skiis yets; summer skiing is about to begin! Opening June 22 and going until late July, Blackcomb's Horstman Glacier is opening for summer skiing.
Looking back over the past year, we have seen some extraordinary conditions and wonderful skiing and snowboarding. Cumulatively, Whistler Blackcomb received just shy of 1,120 cm (36.5 ft) of snowfall. December was the best month, with over 340 cm (11.2 ft) of the white stuff coming down! The snowpack is looking fantastic -- we have proof! (image) -- and the Whistler Blackcomb snow crews are hard at work making ideal conditions.
The Hills Are Alive
The hills be abuzz with eager skier and snowboarders this summer: just like last year, a terrain park will be opened for everyone; various summer camps will be scattered across the Glacier.
A more elite group of skiers and boarders will be joining us in Whistler this summer as well. With the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi just around the corner (has it been four years already?), we are expecting many high-level athletes to come to Whistler, getting in some last minute practice on their tricks and technique. We expect to see national teams from Canada, Russia, France, New Zealand, the United Kindgom, and the United States, but we just even just see some others as well. Keep your eyes peeled for those gold medal hopefuls!
We Love Summer
We love our ski season and hope to see many of you out there this summer. However, there are also a plethora of "real summertime" events occuring all throughout June, July, and August. We are especially looking forward to Ironman Canada, Whistler Children's Festival, and Crankworx. In particular, Crankworx, the legendary freeride mountain bike festival, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary! It's bound to be a great time. There are also all the activities you can do any day you'd like, such as hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, and much more! We hope to see you around.
