Whistler Blackcomb's 'You Name It' contest officially came to an end last week when the winning name was announced, 'The Crystal Ridge Express'. The competition which was open to the public was held earlier in the year to try and find a fitting name for the new chairlift Blackcomb Mountain plans to build for next season.

To help sweeten the pot Whistler Blackcomb announced that the winner of the contest would win their choice between a 2013/14 Unlimited Winter Season Pass or a $1,000 Whistler Blackcomb Gift Card.

The winner of the contest was local resident Kevin Walsh who submitted the name Crystal Ridge Express named after the area the new lift will service the Crystal Zone. Kevin wasn't the only one who submitted the winning name, however as the contest rules stated, if there was multiple submissions of the winning name a draw would be held to decide a winner.

Not only does Kevin get his choice between a pass next year or a $1,000 gift card he and 3 friends will also have the chance to take the first public ride up the new chairlift.

The new high-speed quad chairlift in the Crystal Zone will be 1,708 metres (5,604ft) in length, with a vertical rise of 535 metres (1,755ft). The chair will be installed in Blackcomb Mountain's Crystal Zone opening up new areas including more accessible routes to Ridge Runner, Rock 'N' Roll, and gladed trails like Outer Limits without having to return to the Excelerator Express. The new quad's location will also make it quicker and easier for skiers returning from Spanky's Ladder and the Blackcomb Glacier.
