Sea to Sky Nordic Festival
The Sea to Sky Nordic Festival will be taking place this weekend. There are two events running throughout the Easter weekend the Cross Country Nationals and the Ski Jumping competition. Both events will be taking place at Whistler Olympic Park located in the Callaghan Valley. The competitions are FREE to attend.
Haywood Ski Nationals: March 23 - 30
The 2013 Haywood Ski Nationals are the marquee event held every year for Canadian cross country skiing. This event attracts the best cross country skiers our country has to offer. Approximately 500 skiers will be competing in up to 5 events per day during the eight day period. There will be several different categories including: team races, jr and sr races, boys and girls and many more.
Aviva Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Nationals: March 28 - 31
The Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined is sure to be a crowd favorite. This year's event is shaping up to be a dozey with all of Canada's best ski jumpers fighting for a place on the up-coming Olympic squad.
About Ski Jumping
The ski jumping competition is all about speed, style and who can jump the farthest. Athletes take off from different distances on a large ramp and fly through the air while being judged on form and of course how far they can jump.
Community Easter Egg Hunt: March 30
Grab the kids and join us for the 4th annual Community Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, March 30. The Myrtle Philip Community Centre will be hosting this year's event from 9AM to 11AM. The day's events will include children's crafts and of course the big Easter egg hunt.
Separate areas will be set up for kids of all ages. There will be a 0-2 years, 3-6 years and 7+years area set up around the field. The Easter egg hunt is FREE to the public so don't be shy bring the whole family down. There will also be drinks and food made available for purchase. The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance at the event and will be available for pictures all morning. Please note that parking is very limited at the Community Centre so please do your best to walk, cycle, carpool or use public transport.
Nintendo Family Mountain Adventure: March 31
Nintendo will be hosting a very special family adventure day this weekend. Families begin the day by checking in on either Whistler at the Roundhouse Lodge or Blackcomb at the Rendezvous Lodge from 10am to 11am. Then families travel at their own pace down the mountain on the designated Family Certified Wonder Route or your own custom route. Along these routes are multiple Adventure Stations equipped with different family activities, treats & games.
There are 12 stations spread out over the two mountains. Which stations you stop at and how much time you spend there is up to you. At the end of the day families will check out (1PM) at the same place they checked in and will receive a goodie bag filled with treats for kids and parents. Kids will also be entered into a draw for a chance to win amazing prizes from Whistler Blackcomb and Nintendo. The Nintendo Family Mountain Adventure costs $10. It can be registered for by calling 1-800-766-0449 or in person at any of the Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations or Ski School Sales outlets.
Whistler Blackcomb Fire & Ice Show: March 31
The Whistler Fire and Ice show takes place every Sunday at the base of Whistler Mountain (Skiers Plaza). During the show top members of the Whistler Blackcomb Ski & Snowboard School perform a series of aerial tricks through a ring of fire.
The event also includes a live DJ and fire dancers who perform throughout the evening.
Held once a week in the heart of the Village the show is FREE to the attend and is an awesome way to close out your weekend in Whistler.
The show takes place this Sunday at 8PM.
