Whistler's Olympic Plaza
Whistler's Olympic Plaza was host to many great events, performances and festivals durning Summer 2013.
With the Bike Park and Peak 2 Peak Gondola now closed, winter preparation is in full force and reflection upon this past summer can now take place. The summer was action packed with events, concerts, competitions and festivals happening every weekend all throughout the Whistler Valley. There was a wide range of these events and something for everyone to relate to and enjoy.
The Whistler Olympic plaza was host to many of these great events. It is a relatively new venue in Whistler, having been built for the 2010 Olympic Medal Ceremonies and then turned into a concert venue and grass field for everyone to enjoy during the summer months. Over the last couple of years it has proven to be a great addition to a summer night in Whistler. It has drawn huge crowds of people dancing and singing along to performers such The Boom Booms, Hey Ocean, Mother Mother and Current Swell. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra also played on 5 different days this past July and events such as Deep Summer Photo Challenge, Wanderlust Festival and Whistler Beer Festival were also held here. During the day it was a popular spot to soak in the sun. With the big grass field, fire pit and kids playground it was a perfect spot for a laid back afternoon in the center of Whistler Village.
During the winter this area is transformed into an outdoor skating rink and has room for 150 skaters at a one time. It is a great activity for all ages to enjoy, admission is free and skate rentals are only $5.
Don't Miss out on going for a skate under the stars this winter!
Having an outdoor concert venue and skating rink in the center of Whistler Village has brought many great things to this community and to a vacation in Whistler. The void of night time activities in both summer and winter has been filled. With its great atmosphere and beautiful surrouindings this venue is sure to bring many great things to Whistler in the coming years.
